Sevierville is a mountain town located at the eastern side of Tennessee in the shadow of the Great Smoky Mountain National Park. Because the national park draws in millions of visitors each year, Sevierville and surrounding communities have developed an extensive selection of entertainment and recreational activities to serve these travelers. And yet Sevierville, despite the growth of tourism, maintains a residential atmosphere that is quiet and down-to-earth. This balance, between city-style fun and country-style relaxation, is an attractive amenity for home seekers.
Sevierville has many faces and the town's 17,000 residents may choose to escape to nature or have a good time shopping, dining or seeing a show. Popular outdoor activities include hiking, fishing, golfing, whitewater rafting and wildlife viewing. The less rugged at heart will appreciate Sevierville's shopping, which offers antiques and local arts and crafts as well as trendy fashions. Name-brand bargains are also available at two large outlet malls.
Sevierville is located roughly halfway between Nashville and Charlotte, N.C., right off I-40 at exit 407, and straddling U.S. Route 411. Gatlinburg, home of the main entrance to the Great Smoky Mountain National Park, is about 15 miles south. Other nearby communities include: Pigeon Forge, Wears Valley, Seymour and Dandridge. Public education in Sevierville is provided by the Sevier County School District, which operates over 25 schools throughout the county.
